On February 11, 2021, the
National Center for Disease Control and Public Health carried out a workshop
/training for the Center's Epidemiologists and Biosafety Specialists in order
to train the front-line professionals from public health and hospital network in
biosafety and technics of safety sample taking issues, who are involved in the
fight against COVID-19.
The workshop was organized within the framework of
the project "EU CBRN CoE Project 53 – on-site (on-job) trainings on biosafety and Safe
sample handling of COVID patients for Health Care Professionals in Georgia" funded by the EU and
the International Center for Science and Technology (ISTC).
The project aims to establish a safe sampling
practice for public health and health care personnel working at COVID-19 in
Georgia and to increase their knowledge of biosafety rules and principles,
which will help to reduce the risks of contact with the patient and the
infection of health care personnel.
The training will be held in 65 municipalities
across Georgia and will be attended by 440-450 front-line health care
professionals who are fighting against COVID-19.
These activities will start on February 20 and
will last until April. Local public health centers are involved in facilitating
the implementation of the workshop activities.
