The National Center for Disease Control and Public Health (NCDC)’s vivarium is a support facility to

supply appropriate departments with animals for research and diagnostic purposes. Currently NCDC has

been actively working to bring its laboratory animal research and vivarium facilities to international

standards. This has resulted in a new vivarium equipped with modern equipment and technologies,

located within the Lugar Center, that meets strict international standards.

In a related development, NCDC is working on an updated scientific research support strategy. Approval

of this strategy is expected to gradually decrease the diagnostic work load of the vivarium as new

diagnostic methods, not requiring the use of animals in experimentation, are developed and implemented.
