The Laboratory Network of the National Center for Disease Control and Public Health (NCDC) is the core institution working on agents of infectious pathologies in Georgia. The nationwide network of clinical diagnostic laboratories can provide surveillance and control systems for different infections including sentinel-site based active surveillance, outbreak response capacity, and public health campaigns.
NCDC’s laboratories (Laboratory Support Stations [LSSs] and Zonal Diagnostic Laboratories [ZDLs], Lugar Center) are spread throughout the country based on population density and disease prevalence.
- The NCDC Lugar Center is located in Tbilisi.
- 2 ZDLs are in Adjara (Batumi) and Imereti (Kutaisi).
- 7 LSSs are located in Kakheti, Shida Kartli, Samtskhe-Javakheti, Guria, Racha, Samegrelo – Zemo Svaneti regions and the port Poti.
The LSS –> ZDL –> Lugar Center nationwide laboratory system ensures safe and accurate detection and characterization of endemic as well as novel threats from all parts of the country.
