NOMESCO Classification of Surgical Procedures (NCSP)

title

Health Statistics Committee of Scandinavian countries (NOMESCO) developed the classification for surgical procedures (NCSP) in 1996. Classification is compatible with the ICD-10. It includes a list of about 11000 interventions; is the bases for the NORD DRG system; is implemented in seven countries. Classification of surgical procedures contains 15 chapters, which are arranged according to the body's functional-anatomical systems plus one additional chapter. All chapters cover the basic procedures codes; each of the code is a unique identifier of a particular procedure. Codes of the additional chapter create a general characteristic of the procedure, which is an additional information on the major procedure.
