Project summary
a).Project Objectives:
Assess tobacco use and reactions to tobacco control policies among a nationally representative sample of individuals in Georgia.
Assess tobacco use and clinic-based practices related to smoking among healthcare providers and medical trainees.
Assess tobacco use and attitudes toward tobacco use among female smokers.
ბ). Project implementation:
Study 1 is a cross-sectional survey administered to 1000 participants by resources available at assets affiliated with Georgia’s National Centers for Disease Control (NCDC).
Study 2 is a cross-sectional survey administered to 400 healthcare providers recruited through TSMU and our contacts within TSMU. Data will be entered by the resources available at the NCDC.
Study 3 is a qualitative study involving focus groups of women aged 18 to 34 in Tbilisi recruited through fliers and referrals. Moderators and implementators of the survey are employees of the NCDC.
c).Expected results:
Descriptive analyses of study 1 and 2 will provide basic sociodemographics, smoking-related characteristics, and other reactions to tobacco control policies. Regression and ordinary least squares regression will be employed as appropriate to examine predictors of receptivity to tobacco control policy messaging, covarying for important sociodemographics and other important factors. Qualitative data will be analyzed according to standard principles.4NVivo 9.0 (QSR International, Cambridge, MA), a qualitative data analysis tool, will be used for text coding and to facilitate the organization, retrieval, and systematic comparison of data.
